Article ID: KB32076 KB Last Updated: 17 Jul 2020Version: 2.0
Summary:

When installing SRX5K-MPC3-40G10G (IOC3) cards on SRX5k series, the 40G PICs do not come online. This article describes the cause of this behavior and also presents the procedure to bring these PICs online.

Symptoms:

When an SRX5K-MPC3-40G10 card is installed, the first 2 pics, Pic 0 and Pic 1 which are 12x10GE, come online while pics PIC 2 and Pic 3, which are  3x40GE MPC PICs do not come online.

Cause:

This is due to power and thermal constraints. All four PICs 2 @ 12x10GE + 2 @ 3x40GE cannot be powered on simultaneously.

A maximum of two PICs per IOC can be powered on at the same time with only 1 available for power on from each grouping.

     Group 0
           Pic 0 or Pic 2
     Group 1
           Pic 1 or Pic 3

Solution:

Enter the following configuration to choose the PICs you want to power off.   The remaining PIC of the group will then be powered on.

set chassis fpc <slot> pic <pic> power off
commit

Example:  To Power on the 3x40GE pics, PIC2 and PIC3, enter the following.

set chassis fpc <slot> pic <0> power off
set chassis fpc <slot> pic <1> power off
commit

Note: The IOC3 does not support the following command to set a PIC to go offline or online:

request chassis pic fpc-slot <fpc-slot> pic-slot <pic-slot> <offline | online>
