Article ID: KB32121 KB Last Updated: 10 Oct 2020Version: 2.0
This â€‹article helps you bypass the 'enable password' while authenticating to the WLC via SSH/Telnet using Windows Radius Server (NPS).

Disclaimer: Juniper Networks does not provide support for setting up a Windows RADIUS server; however, the following has been known to work with Juniper Networks WLC  Series controllers.
Need to bypass the 'enable password' to get to the configuration mode of the WLC Series controller.
  1. Click on Windows NPS settings from the Windows Radius server.  Select Policies > Network Policies.
  2. Choose the network policy that you use to authenticate for WLC SSH/Telnet session.  Double click the policy name to open the Secure Wireless Connections Properties window.
  3. Select the Settings tab.
  4. On the Settings tab, select Standard under Radius Attributes:

  5. Next, click Add but leave the Access type as All.
  6. Choose Service-Type below Attributes and click Add once more.
  7. From the Attribute Information Window, select Administrative under Others.

  8. Click OK and then click Close
  9. Click Apply to save the configuration.
  10. Last, open a new SSH/Telnet session to the WLC Series controller via Putty/Secure CRT.  This time you will be prompted only to enter the Login credentials (Username/Password).  The process will bypass the 'enable password' and get you into the configuration mode of the WLC Series controller.
