[vSRX] License auto update may fail if it was originally generated through LMS, then renewed through JAL

Summary:

This article addresses the following:

  1. Ho​w to get Software Serial Number (SSN) from vSRX.

  2. What differences will there be in SSN if the license is generated using LMS or JAL (Juniper Agile license)?

  3. What is the impact of license renewal through JAL that was originally generated through LMS?

Symptoms:

After renewing a license through JAL, which was originally generated through LMS, 5 more alpha numeric characters are added to the SSN. This may cause auto update to fail.

Solution:

The Software Serial Number (SSN) can be obtained with the command, 'show system license'.

Example snippets from three different outputs:

  1. An evaluation license of 60 days:

In case the original LMS license is renewed through JAL, manually update the vSRX license. Refer to KB16675 - SRX Getting Started - Install license for Antivirus, Web Filter, IDP, or Antispam
