[Archive] [WLC] How to generate historical reports in Ringmaster

Article ID: KB32345 KB Last Updated: 10 Oct 2020Version: 2.0

This article explains how to generate historical reports in Ringmaster.

Ringmaster version is enhanced to retain the client session information for 30 days instead of maintaining only the active client sessions. This feature is qualified with a load of 10000 clients spanning 2500 WLAs at an average of 5 client sessions per WLA per day.  By default, this feature is disabled in Ringmaster. To enable this feature, use the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Ringmaster installation path (c:\program files\Juniper Networks\Ringmaster\conf)

  2. Open the services-conf xml file in notepad from conf folder.

  3. Add <SESSION-COLLECTION= “true” history-enabled=”true”/>

  4. To generate client session reports from Ringmaster GUI, select the Reports tab.

  5. In the left pane, expand Session Monitoring and select Client Details.

  6. Click the Report below Generate, which is on the right side of the Reports tab. Then you can query the historical client sessions by WLA or by client IP address, MAC address, and user name.

  7. In this example, the client IP address was used to get the client detailed report. Enter the client IP address, then click Next.

  8. Select the report time period, then click Next.

  9. Once the report is generated, click the link to view the report or go to the WebGUI of Ringmaster and navigate to the reports tab to find the generated reports there.

  10. Select the name of the report you want to view, then click View (reports can be generated either in PDF or HTML format). You can see the historical information of the client.

  11. It is recommended that do not enable this feature in RingMaster when more than 10,000 clients are handled. Enabling this feature in such a scenario might impact performance.

Note: The time should be synchronized in Ringmaster server and WLC to display the correct client session information.
