[EX3400] [EX4300] - Interfaces not displayed in sequential order in the CLI prompt of "show vlans"

Summary:

On EX3400 and EX4300 switches, when the show vlans command is run, interfaces are listed in lexicographical (dictionary) order rather than in sequential order as in EX4200. This article describes how the default display order on these switches can be changed from lexicographical to sequential by using a configurable knob.

Symptoms:

When the show vlans command is run on EX3400 and EX4300, interfaces are listed in lexicographical order as shown below.

Note: Interfaces are not displayed sequentially in the following output. 

root@jtac-ex3400-48t-r2014> show vlans

Solution:

The default display order of interfaces in the show vlans output on EX3400 and EX4300 can be modified by enabling a configurable knob, without any service impact.

There are two possible completions for the global-vlan-member-display command and either completion can be used depending on the type of output display required:

Configure#set protocols l2-learning global-vlan-member-display ?
Possible completions:
lexicographical-order   Display vlan members in lexicographical order
sequential-order        Display vlan members in sequential order

Note: global-vlan-member-display is a hidden command and must be manually entered.

Enable the knob with the following command:

Configure#set protocols l2-learning global-vlan-member-display sequential-order

Output after enabling the knob:

Note: Interfaces are displayed in sequential order.
