Article ID: KB32421 KB Last Updated: 06 Aug 2020Version: 2.0
Summary:

When attempting to log in to FPCs 6-11 on an MX960 router with enhanced MX SCB, users may observe the "error: command is not valid on the mx960" error.

This article demonstrates how users can obtain the information that they want from the FPC without encountering the above error.

Symptoms:

When attempting to log in to FPCs 6-11 on an MX960 router with enhanced MX SCB, the following error is seen:

re0> start shell pfe network fpc10
error: command is not valid on the mx960

re0> request pfe execute command "show syslog messages" target fpc10
error: command is not valid on the mx960

When checked, the FPCs status shows that they are online but not mapped in the UI:

re0> start shell pfe network fpc?
Possible completions:
fpc0 Connect to Flexible PIC Concentrator 0
fpc1 Connect to Flexible PIC Concentrator 1
fpc2 Connect to Flexible PIC Concentrator 2
fpc3 Connect to Flexible PIC Concentrator 3
fpc4 Connect to Flexible PIC Concentrator 4
fpc5 Connect to Flexible PIC Concentrator 5

Solution:

To obtain the information that you want from the FPC, use the following workaround from BSD shell:

re0> start shell
% cprod -A fpc10 -c "show jspec client"

 ID Name
  1 LUCHIP[0]
  2 LUCHIP[4]
  3 XMCHIP[0]
  4 LUCHIP[1]
  5 LUCHIP[5]
  6 XMCHIP[1]

Replace the number of the FPC where you want to execute the command.
