[vSRX] Boot up delay for VSRX spawned on Hyper-V (due to cloud-init)

Article ID: KB32441 KB Last Updated: 21 Feb 2018Version: 1.0

This article documents the delay observed on the vSRX boot up. vSRX is spawned on Hyper-V. The boot up delay is induced by the cloud-init feature.

The boot up process for the vSRX appears to be long.

The cloud-init package is included in Junos OS, starting in version 15.1X49-D100 and 17.4R1. Below are answers to some common questions:

  • This feature cannot be disabled manually.
  • In Junos 15.1X49-D100, cloud-init will add a 90-second delay (or more) to every boot up cycle.
  • In Junos 15.1X49-D110 and 17.4 version and above, cloud-init will add a 90-second delay (or more) to the first boot up cycle. Subsequent boot ups will not show the 90-second delay.
  • Enabling nested virtualization will help the overall boot up time. Nested virtualization can be only enabled on Hyper-V 2016.
