Article ID: KB32560 KB Last Updated: 17 Apr 2018Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article describes the occurrence of the syslog message “transmit-rate configuration has noeffect on a strict-high queue” and the configuration that will prevent the message from being logged.

Symptoms:

Given the following class-of-service configuration:

set class-of-service scheduler-maps TEST_fcoe_MAP forwarding-class fcoe scheduler TEST_fcoe
set class-of-service schedulers TEST_fcoe transmit-rate 10m
set class-of-service schedulers TEST_fcoe priority strict-high

When the above configuration is committed, the commit succeeds. However the following message is logged:

root# commit check
Message from syslogd at Mar 21 13:55:31 ...
cosd[3068]: transmit-rate configuration has noeffect on a strict-high queue
configuration check succeeds
Cause:

The reason for this message is that transmit-rate cannot be included in a forwarding-class that has strict-high priority.

Solution:

To prevent the strict-high priority queue from utilizing the entire bandwidth in the switch and to prevent the transmit rate message from being logged, shaping-rate must be configured.

This can be done as follows:

root# show class-of-service |display set
set class-of-service scheduler-maps TEST_fcoe_MAP forwarding-class fcoe scheduler TEST_fcoe
set class-of-service schedulers TEST_fcoe shaping-rate 10m
set class-of-service schedulers TEST_fcoe priority strict-high

root# commit check
configuration check succeeds
