[SRX] Why are some devices not listed in the 'bios-autoupgrade.conf' file?

Article ID: KB32636 KB Last Updated: 09 May 2018Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article describes the content of the bios-autoupgrade.conf file used by the auto bios upgrade feature. For details regarding this feature, refer to documentation on Understanding BIOS Upgrades on SRX Series Devices.

Symptoms:

The BIOS version listed in the bios-autoupgrade.conf file is the minimum supported version. If the current device has a BIOS version earlier than the minimum compatible version, then the auto BIOS upgrade feature upgrades the BIOS automatically to the latest version. The bios-autoupgrade.conf is used for auto bios upgrade, but some devices are not listed in the file.

The following is example content of the file from Junos 15.1X49-D130, where SRX300 series and SRX550M does not appear in the list.

root% cat /boot/bios-autoupgrade.conf

# backup BIOS should be > mininum compatible backup BIOS version

#product  min-active  min-backup
srx100    2.7         2.7
srx210    1.5         1.5
srx240    1.5         1.5
srx650    1.5
srx220    1.9         1.9

Solution:

Firmware of devices that are not in the list has compatibility to all versions of Junos releases which support these devices. If a new bios image is not compatible with a new Junos image, the minimum supported version is added to the list and auto bios upgrade will work.
