Syslog message: RPD_RSVP_BYPASS_DOWN with "inactivity timeout" as the reason

This article explains the meaning of the "%DAEMON-4-RPD_RSVP_BYPASS_DOWN" log message where the RSVP bypass session is brought down due to inactivity timeout.



When the show log messages command is run, the following log message can be seen:

Jan 27 01:50:10  R1 rpd[25762]: %DAEMON-4-RPD_RSVP_BYPASS_DOWN: RSVP bypass <bypass-LSP name> for protecting interface ae10.0 went down, reason: inactivity timeout



RSVP will bring down the bypass session that is built for specific protected links if there are no LSPs transiting through the protected interface. This behavior is as per design when there are no LSPs to be protected.



This is expected behavior and no action is required.

The above log may be expected when you have all the LSPs moved from the protected link due to events such as auto-bandwidth adjustment and re-optimization.

The default timeout value is 900 seconds, which is not configurable nor is it displayed as part of any show commands. The timeout counter starts as soon as the last protected LSP moves away from the protected link.
