Article ID: KB32870 KB Last Updated: 17 Mar 2021Version: 2.0

This article explains what must be done when transient ICHIP stream conditions are observed, along with the "PFE:.*ICHIP:.*IWO Stream Wedge Detected." syslog message.

The following logs are reported:

%PFE-3: fpc3 ICHIP(3): New timeout errors in WO HDRF, iwo_hdrf_poll_stats
%PFE-3: fpc3 CMALARM: Error (code: 1214, type:Minor) encountered, cmalarm_passive_alarm_signal
%PFE-3: fpc3 ICHIP(3) IWO Stream Wedge Detected
alarmd[1873]: %DAEMON-4: Alarm set: FPC color=RED, class=CHASSIS, reason=FPC 3 Major Errors
craftd[1722]: %DAEMON-4: Major alarm set, FPC 3 Major Errors
%PFE-3: fpc3 I Chip:ICHIP(3) IWO Stream Wedge Detected

The Ichip Wan Output Header_FIFO block is dropping packets when building the L2/L3 Header of the packets. Under certain conditions, such as redirect messages or MTU errors, these drops are normal. However, if any corresponding syslog error messages and/or stream wedge messages are reported, contact JTAC for further assistance.

  • Examine the output of the following commands to help determine the cause of this message:
    • show log messages
    • show log chassisd

  • Use the following shell commands to check for other problems that may be causing the ICHIP errors.

start shell pfe network fpc(#) / cfeb(#)
> show syslog messages
> show nvram
> show ichip (#) wo statistics
> show ichip (#) wo statistics hdrf
> show ichip (#) spi(#) errors
> show ichip (#) spi(#) status
> exit
  • Perform either of the following steps during a maintenance window:

    • Soft restart the FPC
      >request chassis fpc (offline | online | restart) slot slot-number

    • Re-seat the FPC

If the failure messages continue, contact JTAC to further investigate the issue.
