[WLC] How to backup controller configuration while upgrading it via Ringmaster

Article ID: KB33127 KB Last Updated: 14 Sep 2018Version: 1.0

This article summarizes how the controller’s configuration is automatically backed up during the Ringmaster upgrade.

When upgrading the controller via Ringmaster, the controller's configuration is automatically saved with the domain name as the upgrade date.

  1. Open Ringmaster > click Devices > select the controller > click refresh icon > if Network/Local changes are available, click  Review > Accept > Deploy.

  2. From the right task panel, select Device Operations > click Image Repository > click Add Image > Add to Repository.

Note: Step 2 is required to save the controller's image in Ringmaster's Repository to make the image installation process easy to proceed.

  3. Click Add Image, then select the image which is saved in your local system memory.

  4. Click Add to Repository to add the image.

Example: local disk (c:) > Desktop > WLC2800 > select the file which you want to add

  5. The image has been added to the Image Repository. Click Close.

  6. Click Image Install > select an image > click Next > the image will start to download.

Select the desired Image Version from the drop down list and then click Next.

  7. While the image is being installed, you can see from the bottom left hand side field named Install Progress where in "prabal2800" configuration backup is in progress.

The controller's configuration is getting backed up in the background.
