[ScreenOS] Retrieving NetScreen configuration via SCP (Secure Copy)

Article ID: KB33128 KB Last Updated: 27 Sep 2018Version: 1.0

This article explains how to retrieve a configuration file from Netscreen Firewall using SCP.

There are a couple of prerequisites before you can copy the configuration file from Netscreen firewall using SCP.
  1. Enable SSH and SCP globally on firewall

    set ssh version v2
    set ssh enable
    set scp enable
  2. Enable SSH management on the interface you are going to connect via SCP

    set interface ethernet<x/x> manage ssh

    set interface ethernet1/1 manage ssh

  3. Run following syntax on the SCP client running in PC

    scp <administrator name>@<IP address of firewall>:ns_sys_config <filename>
    scp netscreen@ ns_sys_config_backup

This will copy the configuration file in the SCP client folder with file name ns_sys_config_backu . The actual config file is stored in the flash of the device as file name ns_sys_config and can be validated in the output of the get file as the following example:

-> get file
    flash:/$NSBOOT$.BIN              13631488
    flash:/envar.rec                      166
    flash:/ns_sys_config                 1781
    flash:/prngseed.bin                    64
    flash:/pkidatabase.digest              20
    flash:/cli-log                      49952
    flash:/ns_sys_cfg.sig                  20
    flash:/license.key                    360
    flash:/crash.dmp                   262144
    flash:/$lkg$.cfg                     3402
