0

0

Article ID: KB33157 KB Last Updated: 28 Oct 2018Version: 1.0
Summary:

The short-reach feature can be enabled for individual as well as a range of copper-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces by using short cable lengths on a QFX5100-48T switch, and reduces power consumption up to 5W on these interfaces.

This article explains how to confirm that the "short-reach" feature is enabled or disabled on QFX5100 switches.

Solution:

To determine whether the short-reach feature is enabled or disabled, run the following commands and look for the mode specified:

  • Mode 1 indicates that the short-reach feature is enabled:

root@qfx5100-48t-r2237# run show log chassisd | match short | last 10
Dec 16 13:07:17  cfg_ddl_chasd_handle_config_option: Found {port, short-reach-mode}: Attribute Config action: DAX_ITEM_UNCHANGED
Dec 16 13:07:17  Parsing Element {port, short-reach-mode}
Dec 16 13:07:17  ch_sfxpc_short_reach_mode_action : Sending Short reach mode message hru IPC for port_low 1 port_high 0 for mode 1
  • Mode 0 indicates that the short-reach feature is disabled:

root@qfx5100-48t-r2237# run show log chassisd | match short | last 10
Dec 16 13:07:17  cfg_ddl_chasd_handle_config_option: Found {port, short-reach-mode}: Attribute Config action: DAX_ITEM_CHANGED
Dec 16 13:07:17  Parsing Element {port, short-reach-mode}
Dec 16 13:07:17  ch_sfxpc_short_reach_mode_action : Sending Short reach mode message hru IPC for port_low 2 port_high 0 for mode 0

For more information about configuring the short-reach feature, refer to Configuring Short Reach Mode. Note that this feature is supported only on copper-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces that use short cable lengths (less than 10m) on the QFX5100-48T switch.
