[WLA/WLC] Slow speed or poor wireless performance in 9.6 and 9.2 MSS_Versions

  [KB33402] Show Article Properties

Summary:

This article provides a solution to overcome the issues like slow speed or poor wireless performance observed in 9.6 and 9.2 MSS_Versions.

Symptoms:

Interface speed is only 54 Mb/s (expected was 130Mb/s). After experimenting with 11n radio settings short/long Guard Interval, discovered that 9.6/9.2 release of MSS_Versions does not support 802.11n. All wireless clients connect with the 802.11a or 802.11g band instead of 802.11an or 802.11ng. However, this issue does not appear in 9.1.7.2 MSS_Version.

Solution:

The 11n support must be disabled for a few RSN-IEs like WEP40/WEP104, which is followed from day one code. This code changes are present in SR and MRs (9.6/9.2).  They are not present in 9.1, so the issue would not be present in 9.1 MSS_Version.

The following releases of MSS_Version are fixed. We recommend upgrading the controllers to one of these:

  • 9.6.8.1 MR9

  • 9.2.5.1 MR6

Note: If you plan to upgrade the controllers from 8.0/9.0 MSS_Version, then upgrade the controllers to 9.6.8.1 MSS_Version. Likewise, if you plan to upgrade the controllers from 9.1 MSS_Version then upgrade the controllers to 9.2.5.1 MSS_Version.

Refer to the following links to save current configuration of the controller and to upgrade the controllers via Ringmaster/CLI/Webview:
