[SRC] SAE not starting after upgrading to SRC-PE release 4.12.0

Article ID: KB33949 KB Last Updated: 03 Sep 2019Version: 2.0
Summary:

After the Session and Resource Control (SRC) software is upgraded to SRC-PE release 4.12.0-R-1, the service activation engine (SAE) does not start. In the Command Line Interface (CLI), it displays a "stopped" state.

While outlining the cause for this problem, this article also suggests a workaround and indicates the release in which a fix will be available.

Symptoms:

The SAE is shown to be in stopped state after upgrade:

admin@src1> show component | match sae
Installed Components
Name Version Status
sae Release: 7.18 Build: SAE.R.7.18.0.1 stopped

Cause:

This problem is due to the new configuration statements for SAE introduced in SRC-PE release 4.12.0, which did not exist in SRC-PE release 4.11.0. These new configuration statements do not have a default value set and hence the value is automatically set to 0. Due to this, SAE does not start.

Snippet of slot 0 SAE config in SRC-PE release 4.11.0

admin@src1# show slot 0 sae |display set
...
set slot 0 sae java-heap-size 24000m
set slot 0 sae java-min-heap-size 4g
set slot 0 sae java-min-new-size 256m
set slot 0 sae java-new-size 1000m

Snippet of slot 0 SAE config in SRC-PE release 4.12.0

admin@src1# show slot 0 sae |display set |match java
...
set slot 0 sae java-heap-size 20447m
set slot 0 sae java-heap-size-percentage 39
set slot 0 sae java-min-heap-size 0m
set slot 0 sae java-min-heap-size-percentage 0
set slot 0 sae java-min-new-size 0m

Solution:

The problem is documented in PR1414194 and a fix is expected in the 4.12.0 patch release. The name/number of this patch release will be SRC-PE-4.12.0-R-2.

Meanwhile, the workaround for this issue is to manually configure the newly added configuration statements for SAE in SRC-PE release 4.12.0, and then start SAE.

The recommended values for percentages are shown below:

admin@src1# show slot 0 sae |display set |match java
...
set slot 0 sae java-heap-size 20447m
set slot 0 sae java-heap-size-percentage 70
set slot 0 sae java-min-heap-size 0m
set slot 0 sae java-min-heap-size-percentage 70
set slot 0 sae java-min-new-size 0m
set slot 0 sae java-min-new-size-percentage 20
set slot 0 sae java-new-size 524m
set slot 0 sae java-new-size-percentage 20
