[EX/QFX] Recovery installation for QFX10K and EX4300-MP

Summary:

This article describes the recovery installation procedure for QFX10K and EX4300-MP switches, which is different compared to other EX and QFX devices.

Symptoms:

The boot menu is not found after rebooting Junos.  

Solution:
  1. Connect to the console and reboot the device from the hypervisor using the following command

    request system reboot hypervisor
  2. Once the console displays the below output, use the ^ and v keys to select Juniper-Linux-Recovery entry

  3. Select the image which you want to recover

  4. Select an image for recovery or cancel to continue:

    Select a recovery image:
    1) qfx-5e-flex-15.1X53-D235.201808292219
    2) cancel
    Pick an option[1-2]:
     
    Enter y to format the junos data disk
    Do you want to format Junos data disk?[y/n] 
    Enter y to format the junos config
     
    Do you want to format Junos config disk?[y/n] 
    Enter y to reimage linux host
     
    Do you want to reimage linux host?[y/n] y
    Enter 1 to proceed with the recovery
     
    ==================================================================
    Recovery options selected:
     Recovery image            : qfx-5e-flex-15.1X53-D235.201808292219
     Format Junos data disk    : yes
     Format Junos config disk  : yes
     Reimage linux host        : yes
    ==================================================================
  5. Choose one of the following options:

    1) Proceed with the recovery.
    2) Go back to the recovery menu.
    3) Abort the recovery process.
     
    Please confirm[1/2/3]: 

     

    After that, the device will recover by itself.
