How to check SRX5000 cluster control port physical status on a chip level using the CLI

Summary:

When control link is reported down, you may need to check the SRX cluster control port physical status. This can be checked via CLI instead of physically onsite.
 

Solution:

Example:

  • Two SRX5800s build a cluster. Control port is fpc0 port 0(node0) and fpc12 port 0(node1).
  • Both SPCs are SPCII.

Topology:

SRX5800 (fpc0 port0) ----- (fpc0 port0) SRX5800

Configuration:

root@SRX5800> sh config chassis
show configuration chassis
cluster {
    control-ports {
        fpc 0 port 0;
        fpc 12 port 0;
    }
  1. Enter shell mode with, 'start shell'

  2. Login into SPC where control port resides:

root@SRX5800% vty node0.fpc0

Case I -  Control ports are disconnected.

SPC-XLP-0(SRX5800 vty)# show bcm53xx status
 BCM5389 unit 0 link status:
  Port#   Name   Link   Speed   Duplex
    0       XLP0 Up    1000Mbps  Full
    1       XLP1 Up    1000Mbps  Full
