[SRX] SRX5K may boot into Junos recovery partition after the root password recovery process

Summary:

SRX5K devices running Junos OS 17.3 or higher may reboot using the Junos recovery partition after using the root password recovery process.

Symptoms:

After using the root password-recovery process on SRX5K devices using Junos OS 17.3 or higher, the device reboots into the Junos Recovery Partition showing the following outputs after the first reboot:

root@srx5800> request system reboot    
Reboot the system ? [yes,no] (no) yes

--- JUNOS 17.4R2.4 Kernel 64-bit  JNPR-11.0-20180730.2cd3a6e_buil
Note: Junos is currently running in recovery mode on the OAM volume


 
Solution:

If the device has booted off the recovery partition, issue another reboot to boot from the normal Junos partition.

Note: Junos is currently running in recovery mode on the OAM volume
 
root@s09-22> request system reboot

To prevent the need for two reboots, after committing an updated password while using the root password recovery process, issue the following command to force a reboot to the normal Junos partition.

root# set system root-authentication plain-text-password
New password:
Retype new password:

[edit]
root# commit and-quit



root@s09-22> request system reboot ?       
Possible completions:
  <[Enter]>            Execute this command
  at                   Time at which to perform the operation
  in                   Number of minutes to delay before operation
  junos                Boot off Junos volume
  message              Message to display to all users
  network              Network boot via PXE
  oam                  Boot off OAM volume
