[BTI] PEM reports "Equipment Mismatch" alarm on BTI7800 chassis

Article ID: KB34667 KB Last Updated: 28 Jun 2019Version: 1.0
Summary:

After the Power Entry Module (PEM) is replaced with a different power supply type (AC to DC and vice versa), the BTI7800 chassis raises active alarms/conditions indicating "Equipment Mismatch'" for the PEM units.

This article explains the reason for the alarms, and provides instructions to correct the problem.

Symptoms:

Output of issued CLI command has PEM-related alarm entries:

Cause:

During initial installation, the BTI7800 device software reads the actual hardware installed in the chassis slots and creates an Inventory/Equipment list.

  • The show inventory command returns the list of Real hardware installed in the chassis at the present moment.

  • The show equipment command returns the list of Provisioned (logical) cards, modules, transceivers, and so on, in the chassis.

When the initial installation and configuration is completed, the output of both commands return identical unit values.

However, after a PEM module is replaced with a PEM module of different type, the BTI7800 system discovers the differences between the inventory list (Real Hardware) and the equipment list (Provisioned Hardware), and raises an alarm for this event.

Example

Note: Some of the output has been omitted in the example.

Solution:

Replacing the PEM modules with ones of a different type would require additional steps to re-provision the modules. This involves PEM equipment provisioning to align the PEM type with the Inventory list, which means that Equipment should match Inventory.

Equipment provisioning is done at the Configuration level with the following CLI commands.

  • Use this command for the AC PEM modules in the Inventory list.

BTI-7802# config
BTI-7802(config)# equipment chassis:1 module pem:1/1 pec BT8A78PEM1-AC; top
BTI-7802(config)# equipment chassis:1 module pem:1/2 pec BT8A78PEM1-AC; top
BTI-7802(config)# commit

  • Use this command for the DC PEM modules in the Inventory list.

BTI-7802# config
BTI-7802(config)# equipment chassis:1 module pem:1/1 pec BT8A78PEM1-DC; top
BTI-7802(config)# equipment chassis:1 module pem:1/2 pec BT8A78PEM1-DC; top
BTI-7802(config)# commit

After the PEMs have been re-provisioned, the alarms are no longer present.
