[NorthStar] Will port 7003 be closed by default starting from NorthStar 4.3.0?

Article ID: KB34680 KB Last Updated: 11 Sep 2019Version: 1.0

This article answers a question about port 7003 in newer NorthStar Controller releases starting from NorthStar 4.3.0.

NorthStar Controller uses port 7003 as the Communications port to NorthStar Operator.

In releases prior to NorthStar 4.3.0, while installing NorthStar Controller, port 7003 was required to be allowed by the external firewall. However, starting from NorthStar 4.3.0, port 7003 will be closed by default and there will not be any impact because the services that were using port 7003 will now use port 7000.

[root@northstar ~]# ss -antu | grep 7000
tcp LISTEN 0 5 *:7000 *:*
[root@northstar ~]# ss -antu | grep 7003
[root@northstar ~]#

From NorthStar Controller 4.3.0, port 7000 and 7001 are the only mandatory ports that need to be open. For a complete list of ports that must be allowed by external firewalls, see NorthStar Controller System Requirements.
