Article ID: KB34772 KB Last Updated: 25 Jul 2019Version: 1.0
Summary:

LED indicators cannot be lit up even if there are cables connecting to the related ports on EX2300-48MP, EX3400-24T and EX2300-24MP platforms. This issue can be found on several JUNOS versions. It cannot be detected with the command, 'show chassis led' on EX2300-48MP or EX2300-24MP because the command is not supported on these switches.

Symptoms:

First, the following log messages are continuously recorded in the "messages" file whether the ports in the log are up or down.

Jul 4 01:01:45 Switch-EX2300-48MP dc-pfe: optic_set_activity_led:[FPC:0 PIC:0 Port:12 Chan:0 - Ifd Speed:0] Failed setting activity led to ON

Jul 4 01:01:45 Switch-EX2300-48MP mib2d[3921]: SNMP_TRAP_LINK_UP: ifIndex 550, ifAdminStatus up(1), ifOperStatus up(1), ifName ge-0/0/12
Jul 4 01:05:08 Switch-EX2300-48MP mib2d[3921]: SNMP_TRAP_LINK_DOWN: ifIndex 550, ifAdminStatus up(1), ifOperStatus down(2), ifName ge-0/0/12
Jul 4 01:05:08 Switch-EX2300-48MP mib2d[3921]: SNMP_TRAP_LINK_DOWN: ifIndex 513, ifAdminStatus up(1), ifOperStatus down(2), ifName irb.0
Jul 4 01:05:16 Switch-EX2300-48MP dc-pfe: optic_set_activity_led:[FPC:0 PIC:0 Port:7 Chan:0 - Ifd Speed:0] Failed setting activity led to ON
Jul 4 01:05:16 Switch-EX2300-48MP fpc0 optic_set_activity_led:[FPC:0 PIC:0 Port:7 Chan:0 - Ifd Speed:0] Failed setting activity led to ON
Jul 4 01:05:16 Switch-EX2300-48MP mib2d[3921]: SNMP_TRAP_LINK_UP: ifIndex 543, ifAdminStatus up(1), ifOperStatus up(1), ifName ge-0/0/7

Second, the physical LED indicators are out even when there are cables plugged into the ports. The picture below is an example:

Solution:

There is no functional impact per PR1361739. The switch works as expected even with no LED indicators lighting up. However, this is fixed-in JUNOS versions 19.2R2 and
19.1R2 per PR1428703.

NOTE: PR1428703 is still open, so the fixed versions may be different when investigation is completed.
