[BTI] Circuit pack missing alarm on 7060 and 7030 chassis

Article ID: KB34883 KB Last Updated: 28 Sep 2019Version: 1.0

The user can see an unexpected alarm when removing circuit pack / filler pack from a slot on 7060 and 7030 chassis types.

This article explains the reason and corrective actions for fixing and clearing the Circuit pack missing alarms.

If one of the following happens:

  • chassis type 7060 or 7030
  • a filler circuit pack removed from a slot leaving slot empty
  • a service circuit pack deprovisioned and removed from a slot leaving slot empty
When Major alarm Circuit pack missing is raised by the system.

A filler module is required in unpopulated slots of the BTI 7000 Series chassis. The filler is required to ensure that airflow adequately cools the system.

An alarm is generated if a slot remains empty - no service circuit pack or filler pack is plugged in and seated.

The system option - FPDETECT (filler pack detection) Enabled - is used to affect the circuit pack missing condition handling for 7030 and 7060 chassis types.

If available, insert filler circuit pack to empty slot to suppress Circuit pack missing alarm. Filler circuit pack has a connector to chassis backplane and physical module is detected as a Filler circuit pack present and alarms are suppressed.

From software release 8.1, an alternative to filler circuit packs have been introduced - filler face plates.

The filler face plates have no connection to backplane and are not detectable at chassis and have no affect to system generated alarms.

In this case, the FPDETECT (filler pack detection) must be Disabled (set to OFF) so that alarms Circuit pack missing are cleared from the system and such alarms have no reason to raise if the slot is empty from any type of circuit pack.
