Article ID: KB35058 KB Last Updated: 23 Sep 2019Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article explains the meaning of and trigger conditions for the "USP_IF_TOOLKIT: Duplicate attach for ifl_index76, flags 3, localaddr 0x71d8e9a7 local_plen 32" log message on SRX/vSRX devices.

Symptoms:

The above log message can appear in the log message file during any one of the following events:

  1. When deleting multiple IP addresses on the same logical interface at the same time

  2. When adding more than two IP addresses and deleting one IP address on the same logical interface at the same time

  3. When an address change occurs on an interface that has an address of the same subnet

The above behaviors can cause duplicated access to the same localaddr, which is the location of the IP addresses on the device, thus resulting in the generation of the above log message.

Cause:

These messages are seen when an address change occurs on an interface that has an address of the same subnet. In this scenario, the log message only indicates that either a secondary IP address or a duplicate IP address (within the same subnet) has been assigned on an interface due to the Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP). The log is usually generated when there is VRRP state change.

Solution:

The log message is informational and can be ignored.

To filter these syslog messages, refer to the steps in KB9382 - [Junos Platform] Example - How to prevent certain syslog messages from being written to the log file.

If you observe any issues due to this log generation, contact Support for assistance.
