[MX/PTX/QFX] Complete hardware info is in inventory when a certain component is removed from chassis

Summary:

This article clarifies that it is expected behavior to see complete hardware information in inventory when a certain component is removed from the chassis in MX Series routers.

Symptoms:

The inventory log appears with complete hardware information when a certain component (in this case the FPC) is removed or inserted from the chassis.

Cause:

For TOR Velocity Program (TVP) platforms such as MX10003, MX204, all QFX platforms, PTX1k and some SRX platforms, the inventory logs will appear with all hardware information when a certain component is removed or inserted from the chassis. Only the SNMP trap is for a certain component.

This is expected behavior on TVP platform devices, and is unlike non-TVP platform devices where only the affected hardware information is displayed.

Solution:

The above behavior is expected on TVP platform devices. No action is required. Customers need only note the differential behavior.
