[SRX] Physical stream gets disabled after reboot

0

0

Article ID: KB35333 KB Last Updated: 11 Dec 2019Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article explains why the physical stream may be disabled after SRX5k devices reboot, and indicates a workaround to resolve the issue. The article also lists the Junos OS releases in which the fix is available.

Symptoms:

The physical stream could be disabled after reboot and cause user traffic disruption.

Cause:

After a reboot, both the Routing Engine (RE) and the local I/O card on SRX5k devices will try to manage the physical streams during system bootup. In some race condition, the physical stream could be disabled accidentally.

This problem may occur more easily on fully loaded systems. Also, it is easier to trigger the issue if there are several SPCs and the problem may occur on any Services Processing Card (SPC). After the issue is triggered, it cannot be fixed without rebooting the system.

Solution:

The problem has been fixed in Junos OS Release 12.3X48-D45, 12.3X48-D50, and 15.1X49-D30.

Meanwhile, to work around the issue, reboot the device. After rebooting the device, check the following four streams on each SPC from shell mode and make sure that they are all enabled.

Note: You can ignore any other streams that are disabled.

An example to check FPC3 on a standalone SRX5k device is given below. Make sure to add node0.fpc3 or node1.fpc3 in the case of a cluster setup:

root@srx>start shell
%cprod -A fpc3 -c "show xm 0 phy-stream 1024 1"
%cprod -A fpc3 -c "show xm 0 phy-stream 1028 1"
%cprod -A fpc3 -c "show xm 0 phy-stream 1180 1"
%cprod -A fpc3 -c "show xm 0 phy-stream 1184 1"

If these four streams are not enabled, reboot the system again.

The following is an output of a disabled stream.

root@srx% cprod -A fpc3 -c "show xm 0 phy-stream 1180 1"
