[QFX] 'Error: /dev/sdb: unrecognised disk label :error[0]'

Article ID: KB35413 KB Last Updated: 17 Jan 2020Version: 1.0

After upgrading from 15.x to 17.x the following error message is seen immediately:

'Error: /dev/sdb: unrecognised disk label :error[0]'

It is also seen after a hypervisor reboot as well.

The error message is an informational message which does not have any impact to service.

Error messages seen:

Oct  10 05:39:26.2  JTAC-SWITCH vhclient.12770.daemon: Error: /dev/sdb: unrecognised disk label :error[0]
Oct  10 05:39:26.4  JTAC-SWITCH vhclient.12770.daemon: Error: /dev/sdb: unrecognised disk label :error[0]
Oct  10 05:39:26.8  JTAC-SWITCH vhclient.12770.daemon: Error: /dev/sdb: unrecognised disk label :error[0]

This message means that the vhclient is trying to invoke "parted" on the secondary disk (sdb) and that disk is used as LVM (Logical Volume on SSD). This is expected behavior.

This error message has no functional impact and can be safely ignored.

To suppress repeating non-impacting messages, refer to KB9382 - How to prevent certain syslog messages from being written to the log file
