[BTI] 821/822 node is unreachable from PSM

Sometimes PSM (ProNX Service Manager) would raise “Network Element is Unreachable” alarm against 821/822 node, although the node is responsive to ICMP pings.

This article describes the root cause of this issue and how to fix it.


The 821/822 node is responsive to ICMP ping and its CLI is reachable, however it is not reachable from PSM server or client via SNMP protocol. PSM raises a "Network Element is Unreachable" alarm against the node.


The root cause of the issue is that the snmpd process in the 821/822 node hangs up, so the node becomes unreachable via SNMP protocol. To check that the node is unreachable via SNMP you can issue “snmpwalk -v 2c -c <community string> <node IP address>” command from PSM server, please find example below.

[root@psm-server ~]# snmpwalk -v 2c -c public
Timeout: No Response from

The SNMP process in 821/822 node can be restarted to restore SNMP protocol exchange from a debug-level shell accessible only by JTAC engineers. If the 821/822 in question is confirmed to be unreachable via SNMP protocol, please contact your JTAC Representative for assistance.
