Fabric Input/Output packet counter is always zero for PTX/EX devices

Summary:

The fabric fault management functionality involves monitoring all high-speed links connected to the fabric and the ones within the fabric core for link failures and link errors. This document explains about Fabric Input/Output packet counter limitation.

Cause:

Fabric Input/ Output packet count is only supported on MX series devices.

Solution:

The command "show-pfe-statistics-traffic" displays the PFE traffic statistics on EX, PTX, MX, TX Matrix, and TX Matrix plus routers.

While the command is valid over the above-mentioned product series, information about Fabric input and output packet counter cannot be obtained on all devices. This privilege only lies with MX device were in packet rate in and out of the fabric is counted and the count keeps incrementing as and when a packet traverses through the MX-Fabric.

Note: Here, the first column of values indicate packet count and the second column indicate the packet rate

Increment in fabric packet count

Note: The Fabric In/Out packet also increments the counter for internal chassis interactions (Ex: Self ping and liveliness detection), since these involve FPC interaction with the fabric.
