[ScreenOS] Error message ' Invalid RTO message magic' reported in 'get log sys rev' output

Article ID: KB36031 KB Last Updated: 30 Jun 2020Version: 1.0

This article provides a reason for the error message and the steps to resolve it.

ScreenOS running NSRP may report the following error repeatedly in the 'get log sys rev' output:

 Invalid RTO message magic
 Invalid RTO message magic
 Invalid RTO message magic

This can also result in a 'configuration out of sync' message reported on the backup node.

These error messages may be seen on the NSRP node if there is a mismatch in the 'get envar' output between two nodes.

They can also affect the backup node's configuration sync ability with the primary.

Some of the envar feature mismatch on two nodes that are known to cause this are:
set envar ipv6=yes
set envar max-frame-size=<value>

To fix the error messages, execute the specific envar command on the relevant node to match it with the other node.
Note: The envar command requires a reboot.

If 'configuration out of sync' is also reported on the backup, execute the 'exec nsrp sync global-config save' command followed by one more reboot of the backup node.
