Article ID: KB36063 KB Last Updated: 10 Jul 2020Version: 1.0
Summary:

The Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) consists of a set of open source libraries and drivers for fast packet processing. DPDK has a rapid development cycle and every three months a new version with new features and bug fixes is released.

Given this rapid development cycle, it would help to know how users can verify the DPDK release that is currently being used. This article introduces a simple method that can be used to verify the DPDK release that a Contrail DPDK vRouter is currently running on.

Solution:

Starting from Contrail 3.2.5, DPDK library 17.02 is used. (Earlier Contrail versions were based on DPDK library version 2.1). This information is available in the respective release note. For example, the release notes for Contrail 3.2 is available in New and Changed Features.

In order to verify the current DPDK version that the Contrail vRouter is running on, you can check the contrail-vrouter-dpdk.log:

    $ less /var/log/contrail/contrail-vrouter-dpdk-stdout.log | grep -i version | tail -2
    2019-09-27 11:09:58,103 VROUTER: vRouter version: {"build-info": [{"build-time": "2018-10-18 07:00:47.106457", "build-hostname": "ubuntu", "build-user": "contrail-builder", "build-version": "3.2.13.0"}]}
    2019-09-27 11:09:58,103 VROUTER: DPDK version: DPDK 17.02.0

The above log will give the current version on which the vRouter is running at the given time. In this example, you see that it is running on DPDK version 17.02.0.
