[Sky Enterprise] Device added in Sky Enterprise with ZTP is Stuck at Start State

Article ID: KB36219 KB Last Updated: 22 Sep 2020Version: 1.0
Summary:

A device is added into Sky Enterprise by using the Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) template. However, after powering up and plugging in the network cable, ZTP is stuck at start state.

This article provides the reason and explains how to resolve the issue.

Symptoms:
  • A device is added in Sky Enterprise by using the ZTP template.

  • The Ethernet cable is plugged into the front panel port, and is powered up.

  • The ZTP is in start state.

Solution:

When ZTP is at start state, Sky Enterprise is ready to accept a connection from the device, but in this case, it is not detecting the device. This usually means that the device has not yet made a connection to the redirect.juniper.net server. If the device is at factory default, make sure that the Ethernet cable is plugged into a port that is configured for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). The management port is one that does not have DHCP enabled. If your Ethernet cable is plugged into the management port, this could be the reason that Sky Enterprise cannot detect the device.

The table below shows the port to which you can connect your Ethernet cable for ZTP:

Device Front Panel Port
SRX300 0/0
SRX320 0/0
SRX340 0/0
SRX345 0/0
SRX380 0/0
EX/QFX Device Any front panel port
NFX250 Any front panel port (except MGMT or Console port)

Note: The ISP connection should be allocating DHCP IP addresses. DNS and NTP addresses should be allocated by the DHCP server at the ISP, down to the device.
