[MX] How to power off FPC using SNMP trap events

0

0

Article ID: KB36491 KB Last Updated: 25 Feb 2021Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article explains how to utilize arguments and values from the SNMP trap observed in the chassisd messages in order to power off the FPC or perform other configuration changes.

Symptoms:

FRU offline will have the string 'CHASSISD_SNMP_TRAP10' and online will have the string 'CHASSISD_SNMP_TRAP7'. In addition, each string in the message is an argument and will have a value next to it. Event policy can be configured using these arguments and values as match conditions and provide the desired action.

Examples:

CHASSISD_SNMP_TRAP10 [junos@2636.1.1.1.2.21 trap="Fru Offline" argument1="jnxFruContentsIndex" value1="7" argument2="jnxFruL1Index" value2="11" argument3="jnxFruL2Index" value3="0" argument4="jnxFruL3Index" value4="0" argument5="jnxFruName" value5="FPC: DPCE 20x 1GE + 2x 10GE R @ 10/*/*" argument6="jnxFruType" value6="3" argument7="jnxFruSlot" value7="10" argument8="jnxFruOfflineReason" value8="2" argument9="jnxFruLastPowerOff" value9="746337" argument10="jnxFruLastPowerOn" value10="747181"] SNMP trap generated: Fru Offline (jnxFruContentsIndex 7, jnxFruL1Index 11, jnxFruL2Index 0, jnxFruL3Index 0, jnxFruName FPC: DPCE 20x 1GE + 2x 10GE R @ 10/*/*, jnxFruType 3, jnxFruSlot 10, jnxFruOfflineReason 2, jnxFruLastPowerOff 746337, jnxFruLastPowerOn 747181)

CHASSISD_SNMP_TRAP7 [junos@2636.1.1.1.2.21 trap="Fru Online" argument1="jnxFruContentsIndex" value1="7" argument2="jnxFruL1Index" value2="11" argument3="jnxFruL2Index" value3="0" argument4="jnxFruL3Index" value4="0" argument5="jnxFruName" value5="FPC: DPCE 20x 1GE + 2x 10GE R @ 10/*/*" argument6="jnxFruType" value6="3" argument7="jnxFruSlot" value7="10"] SNMP trap generated: Fru Online (jnxFruContentsIndex 7, jnxFruL1Index 11, jnxFruL2Index 0, jnxFruL3Index 0, jnxFruName FPC: DPCE 20x 1GE + 2x 10GE R @ 10/*/*, jnxFruType 3, jnxFruSlot 10)
Solution:

In this example, using the arguments and values as mentioned in the symptoms section, an action is defined to power off the line card in slot 10.

Example Configuration:

labroot@R1# set event-options policy fpc-offline events chassisd_snmp_trap10
labroot@R1# set event-options policy fpc-offline attributes-match chassisd_snmp_trap10.argument6 matches jnxFruType
labroot@R1# set event-options policy fpc-offline attributes-match chassisd_snmp_trap10.value6 matches 3
labroot@R1# set event-options policy fpc-offline attributes-match chassisd_snmp_trap10.argument7 matches jnxFruSlot
labroot@R1# set event-options policy fpc-offline attributes-match chassisd_snmp_trap10.value7 matches 10
labroot@R1# set event-options policy fpc-offline then change-configuration commands "set chassis fpc 10 power off"

Verify the change:

labroot@R1# show | compare rollback 1
[edit chassis]
+   fpc 10 {
+       power off;
+   }

>show chassis fpc
Slot State            (C)  Total  Interrupt      1min   5min   15min  DRAM (MB) Heap     Buffer
  10 Offline         ---Configured power off---
