Syslog message: 'PFEMAN_SVC_JFLOW:Failed to connect SRRD on RE'

Article ID: KB36572 KB Last Updated: 17 Mar 2021Version: 1.0
This article explains the meaning and impact of the syslog message, 'PFEMAN_SVC_JFLOW:Failed to connect SRRD on RE'.

SRRD is an abreviation for Sampling Route Record Daemon, which is needed for jflow to work. This is spawned on the Routing Enginge (RE) while there is a process spawned on the PFEs (PFE Manager Services) which communicate with this daemon on the RE.

This syslog message appears in situations where the RE is busy and not responding to messages from PFE Man service running on the PFEs.
Check the following:
  •  Whether SRRD has stopped on the RE. Use 'show system processes extensive | match srrd' to see if you get a PID for SRRD.
  •  Whether there is a core file for SRRD during the time these syslogs are seen. Use 'show system core routing-engine both' to check for SRRD core on primary and back-up RE.

Typically, these syslog messages appear when the RE is busy or SRR daemon suddenly stops working (you will see a core in this case).
It does not impact traffic forwarding thru the device. Only the jflow service will see an intermittent impact untill SRR daemon is back up and running.
