[EX/QFX] How to verify which virtual-chassis member you are connected to via serial console

0

0

Article ID: KB36606 KB Last Updated: 22 Mar 2021Version: 1.0
Summary:

Typically, when connecting to any Virtual-Chassis members' console port, it will always redirect you to the primary RE's console. Therefore, it becomes difficult to identify which member's console you are logged into.

Symptoms:

Even when connecting to a line card member's console, it will still redirect to the primary RE's console. This causes confusion, not knowing whether the console cable is connected to the right member.

Solution:

The following command displays the actual console member from where the session was initiated:

{master:0}
QFX5100-VC> show virtual-chassis login

re1: not found
Current login session initiated from host re1

{master:0}
QFX5100-VC>

This is a 2 member VC. The command above confirms the console session was initiated from re1 (i.e., Backup RE), though it is redirected to primary RE's console.

QFX5100-VC> show virtual-chassis

Preprovisioned Virtual Chassis
Virtual Chassis ID: bc84.bf6d.xxxx

                                                                           0  vcp-255/0/47

{master:0}
QFX5100-VC>

At the same time, if you are connected directly to the primary RE's console itself, it will not display anything:

{master:0}
QFX5100-VC> show virtual-chassis login

Source hostname information not available

{master:0}
QFX5100-VC>
