[MX/PTX] Next Generation routing-engine alarm 'Major Host X ECC single bit parity error'

Summary:

The following alarm is seen on a router with Next Generation Routing-Engine:

user@router> show chassis alarms 
1 alarms currently active 
Alarm time Class Description 
2021-05-20 12:56:00 CEST Major Host 0 ECC single bit parity error 
Cause:

This is due to a single bit parity error within RE ECC memory. When 10 errors are reported, Junos will report this alarm. There is no service impact.

Solution:

After 24 hours without new SBE errors, this alarm is cleared automatically.

Try clearing this alarm manually with the following command:

clear chassis routing-engine memory sbe-count

OR

Change the threshold where the alarm will be reported with this config:

set chassis routing-engine ecc-sbe threshold X


If this problem keeps repeating after clearing the alarm, please contact your JTAC Representative.
