[PTX] PSM Input Failed Alarm

0

1

Article ID: KB37062 KB Last Updated: 06 Jul 2021Version: 2.0
Summary:

When there are no redundant input power feeds connected to PTX10008 JNP10K-PWR-DC2, the following minor alarm is seen in the 'show chassis alarm' output:

2021-05-18 22:06:34 CDT Minor PSM 0 Input B0 Failed
2021-05-18 22:06:34 CDT Minor PSM 0 Input B1 Failed
2021-05-18 22:06:34 CDT Minor PSM 0 Redundant Feed Failed
Cause:

The JNP10K-PWR-DC2 power supply provides two power supplies in a single housing that accepts either 60 A or 80 A using four redundant input power feeds. The two internal power supplies (PS_0 and PS_1) each have redundant input feeds: A0 and/or B0 for PS_0 and A1 and/or B1 for PS_1.

user@chassis> show chassis power
Chassis Power Voltage(V) Power(W)

Total Input Power 5592
  PSM 0
    PS0 51 960
         A0 52
         B0 51
    PS1 51 960
         A1 51
         B1 52
    Output 12.53 1774.98 ( 80A at 12V)

PSM0 is still functioning well if PS0/PS1 only has single feed, but the following alarm might be generated on the router:

user@chassis> show chassis power
Chassis Power Voltage(V) Power(W)

Total Input Power 4416
  PSM 0
    State: Online
    PS0 50 360
         A0 51 <-- B0 feed is not present
    PS1 50 360
         A1 51 <-- B1 feed is not present
    Output 12.29 692.37 (80A input select)

Alarms:

2021-05-18 22:06:34 CDT  Minor  PSM 0 Input B0 Failed <-- PS0 for PSM0 does not have B0
2021-05-18 22:06:34 CDT  Minor  PSM 0 Input B1 Failed <-- PS1 for PSM0 does not have B1
2021-05-18 22:06:34 CDT  Minor  PSM 0 Redundant Feed Failed

Solution:

These alarms are not service impacting. To clear them, connect both input power feeds for each PS. For instructions on how to connect the input feeds, refer to the technical documentation on Install a JNP10K-PWR-DC2 Power Supply

After all feeds are connected, A0, B0, A1, and B1 should be seen under PSM 0:

user@chassis> show chassis power
Chassis Power Voltage(V) Power(W)

Total Input Power 5592
  PSM 0
    PS0 51 960
         A0 52
         B0 51
    PS1 51 960
         A1 51
         B1 52
    Output 12.53 1774.98 ( 80A at 12V)
Modification History:
2021-07-06: Corrected the PTX device name.
