[MX10003] How to check the FPGA version for both REs on MX10003

Article ID: KB37105 KB Last Updated: 10 Aug 2021Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article lists the command that can be used to get the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) version for both the Routing Engines on the MX10003 platform.

Solution:

The MX10003 platform is susceptible to the issue detailed in TSB17760 - MX10003 Routing and Control Board (RCB) may reset with no core-dump, which states that an unused power rail going below the threshold voltage can lead to abnormal reset of the affected Routing Engine.

When this issue is encountered, the fix is to upgrade the FPGA for the affected RE so that it no longer monitors the unused power rail. The following command is used to verify if the FPGA for the RE has been upgraded:

show system firmware
Part Type Tag Current Available Status
                                    version version
CB 0 CB FPGA 0 0.4.0 0.4.0 OK
Routing Engine 0 RE BIOS 7 0.13.1 0.11.01 OK
Routing Engine 0 RE FPGA 2 405.0.0 402.0.00 OK
Routing Engine 0 RE SSD1 3 12028 12028 OK
Routing Engine 0 RE SSD2 4 12028 12028 OK
Routing Engine 0 RE BITSCPLD 9 2.6.0 2.214.0 OK
Routing Engine 1 0 0.0.0 OK
PIC 1 MPCS(2) 4 0.6.0 0.1.0 OK
FPC 1
PIC 1 MPCS(2) 4 0.6.0 0.1.0 OK
PEM 0 PSU DC 8 1.11.0 OK

However, the issue with this command is that it shows the FPGA version only of the current primary RE. The command cannot be run on the backup RE.

As a workaround, you can use the following command to get the FPGA version of both the REs.

show chassis firmware
Part Type Version
RE 0 PRI BIOS CBEP_P_SUM1_00.13.01
                         RE-FPGA 405
RE 1 PRI BIOS CBEP_P_SUM1_00.13.01
                         RE-FPGA 405
FPC 0 ROM PC Bios
                         O/S Version 17.4R1-S4.2 by builder on 2018-06-29 12:58:11 UTC
FPC 1 ROM PC Bios
                         O/S Version 17.4R1-S4.2 by builder on 2018-06-29 12:58:11 UTC

Again, this command can be run from the primary RE, but can be useful in verifying the FPGA version without switching over the primary roles.
