Summary:

This article explains the 'request system reboot' command behavior difference between Junos and Junos OS Evolved. Understanding this is important when migrating from Junos to Junos OS Evolved.

Symptoms:

Execute 'request system reboot' command on Junos OS Evolved and the whole system will reboot.  The message bellow the banner shows that all nodes will reboot:

user@router> request system reboot
All nodes will reboot, do you wish to continue ? [yes,no] (no)
Solution:

‚ÄčIn Junos, when the command 'request system reboot' is executed without any options, by default, it reboots the routing-engine on which the command is executed.

In Junos OS Evolved, when the command 'request system reboot' is executed without any options, by default, it reboots ALL nodes in the system, which means that will reboot other routing engines as well. In order to reboot only one node, it will need to be specified explicitly through another command.

Example:
user@router> request node reboot ?
