0

0

Article ID: KB37437 KB Last Updated: 22 Sep 2021Version: 1.0
Summary:
The following syslog messages are observed:
Router 1: rpd[1403]: RPD_IGMP_ROUTER_VERSION_MISMATCH: IGMP version mismatch on xe-0/0/38:2.0. Local version: 3 Remote version: 2
Router 1 : rpd[1403]: RPD_IGMP_ROUTER_VERSION_MISMATCH: IGMP version mismatch on xe-0/0/38:3.0. Local version: 3 Remote version: 2
Cause:
An IGMP version mismatch in the configuration between the local router and remote router triggered the messages.

Local Router

IGMP Configuration:

protocols {
    igmp {
        traceoptions {
            file igmp_log size 1m files 5;
            flag general;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/42:0.0;
        interface ae15.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/37:0.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/37:1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/37:2.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/37:3.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/38:0.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/38:1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/38:2.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/38:3.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/39:0.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/39:1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/39:2.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/39:3.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/45:0.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/45:1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/45:2.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/45:3.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface ae1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/49:0.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/49:1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/48:0.0 {
            version 3;
        }
        interface xe-0/0/48:1.0 {
            version 3;
        }
    }

The highlighted interface belongs to the IGMP Version 3 and the syslog messages indicate the remote end connected to the local interface belongs to IGMP version 2. This difference in the configuration is the reason the syslog messages were generated on the local router.

Router 1: rpd[1403]: RPD_IGMP_ROUTER_VERSION_MISMATCH: IGMP version mismatch on xe-0/0/38:2.0. Local version: 3 Remote version: 2
Router 1 : rpd[1403]: RPD_IGMP_ROUTER_VERSION_MISMATCH: IGMP version mismatch on xe-0/0/38:3.0. Local version: 3 Remote version: 2
Solution:

Check the Interface IGMP configuration on the local router and remote router.

Make sure the same IGMP version is on both ends with the following command:

user@host> show igmp interface
Interface: ge–0/0/0.0
    Querier: 192.168.4.36
    State: Up Timeout: 197 Version: 2 Groups: 0

Configured Parameters:
IGMP Query Interval: 125.0
IGMP Query Response Interval: 10.0
IGMP Last Member Query Interval: 1.0
IGMP Robustness Count: 2

Derived Parameters:
IGMP Membership Timeout: 260.0
IGMP Other Querier Present Timeout: 255.0

If there is a mismatch in the IGMP version, then perform the following changes:

[edit protocols igmp]
user@host# set interface ge-0/0/0 version 3

Note: By default, Junos Multicast routing devices run IGMP version 2 when IGMP is enabled on an interface as explained in Configuring IGMP.
