[SRX] Intel NIC Tx port is stuck

0

0

Article ID: KB37512 KB Last Updated: 11 Nov 2021Version: 1.0
Summary:

In rare conditions, the Intel NIC Tx port is stuck on SRX4100/SRX4200. The connectivity from the SRX device to the next-hop is broken and causes unexpected traffic impact.

Solution:

Verify the NIC Tx counter to confirm the Tx/RX packet counter is increasing.

Example

Login to the PFE via shell:

>start shell user root
%vty node0.fpc0   [Use vty fpc0 for a standalone unit]
=== node0.fpc0> show nic stats port <0-7>    (where port 0 is xe-0/0/0)
  ######################## NIC statistics for port 6  ########################
 RX-packets: 98189455619  RX-errors:  0           RX-bytes:  75012614847551
  RX-nombuf:  0
  TX-packets: 114744966005  TX-errors:  0           TX-bytes:  83783402892597
=== node0.fpc0> show nic stats port 6
  ######################## NIC statistics for port 6  ########################
  RX-packets: 98189456185  RX-errors:  0           RX-bytes:  75012614883079
  RX-nombuf:  0
  TX-packets: 114744966005  TX-errors:  0           TX-bytes:  83783402892597

Similar output can be verified from the command 'show interfaces <x> extensive'.

A temporary workaround is to perform a software reboot.

For a permanent fix, since this is a hardware issue, replace the chassis proactively during a maintenance window.

The feature of Intel NIC Tx port stuck issue detection for SRX4100 and SRX4200 is added in Junos Release 19.4R3. When it detects an Intel NIC Tx port stuck issue, it generates the following message:

DPDK port # is stuck with a hardware issue!!!
