Summary:
Problem with my system clock when using NTP
Symptoms:

Here is the problem or goal:

  • I am having a problem with my GMT offset in NTP.
  • The NTP option is being used on the NetScreen.  Although my GMT offset is correct, the system time is off by an hour.
  • My system clock is wrong.
  • To understand how the GMT offset works on the NetScreen
  • Configure time, configure NTP, configure clock, configure GMT

Problem Environment:

  • NTP time savings feature is probably enabled.
  • NTP is enabled
  • The system clock or time seems wrong even though the offset is right.

Causes of this problem:

  • The NTP time savings feature is configured incorrectly or misconfigured.
Solution:

Check the Daylight Savings Time feature to make sure it is configured properly.

This is best explained through an example.

  1. Enter parameters for the clock so that it uses NTP.
  2. set clock NTP
    set clock "timezone" -8

  3. Then configure NTP specific parameters.
  4. set NTP server 131.215.254.2
    set NTP interval 1

  5. Exec a clock update via NTP.
  6. exec NTP update

  7. Check the time.
  8. ns-> get clock
