To apply a license key to your ScreenOS device via Web Management, perform the following steps:

The license key feature allows you to expand the features of your ScreenOS device without having to upgrade to a different device or system image. Your ScreenOS device has a standard set of features enabled and might support the activation of optional features or the increased capacity of existing features. To obtain a license key, contact the value-added reseller who sold you the device or contact NetScreen Technologies directly. Provide the serial number of your device and state the feature option you want. The license key is generated and then sent to you via email.
  1. Open the WebUI.

  2. From the WebUI menu, click Configuration, select Update, and then click ScreenOS/Keys

  3. From the ScreenOS/Keys page, click to select License File Update.The file extension can be .txt or .log

  4. Click Choose File.

  5. From the Choose file dialog box, click to select the update file, then click Save.

You have to reset the device to activate the license key.

The above method is valid for all kind of licenses that are available for ScreenOS devices. To automatically retrieve the license keys from the Juniper Entitlement Server, refer to KB3731 - [ScreenOS] How does the firewall download subscription keys from the entitlement server.

Tip: Removing a license key when not using firewall

If you are not using the Anti-Virus feature on the firewall, then you can remove the license with the following command:

ssg550(B)-> exec license-key delete av_v2_key

After a reboot, the firewall will regain some additional memory used by the AV module.
