Configuring Malicious URL Protection

Solution:

The Malicious URL Protection feature enables the ScreenOS device to monitor each incoming HTTP packet and detects any URL that matches any of several user-defined patterns. The device automatically drops any such packet.

To configure Malicious URL protection, perform the following steps:

Step one: Open the WebUI. For an example of how to access the WebUI, consult: KB4060 - Accessing Your NetScreen, SSG, or ISG Firewall Using the WebUI.

  From the ScreenOS options menu, click Security ,then Screening, and then click Mal-URL.

  From the Zone: drop-down menu, click to select the Zone you wish to configure.

  From the Malicious URL Protection New Entry Configuration screen, enter the following information:

  • ID: Enter an identification name for the malicious URL (limit 8 characters).
  • Pattern: Enter the malicious URL string (limit 24 characters).
  • Length: Enter the number of characters you estimate for the malicious URL string. The value for length indicates the number of characters in the pattern that must be present in a URL, starting from the first character for a positive match.

  Click Add.
