What Is the Behavior of 'bypass-non-ip-all' in Transparent Mode?

Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0 and higher.

By default, when your NetScreen device is in Transparent mode, it blocks all non-IP and non-ARP unicast traffic. Beginning with ScreenOS4.0.1r9 and later releases, it can also block multicast and broadcast traffic; this feature is enabled by using the command unset interface bypass-non-ip-all. This command will block all Layer 2 non-IP and non-ARP unicast, multicast, and broadcast traffic.

noteThe unset interface vlan1 bypass-non-ip-all command always overwrites the unset interface vlan1 bypass-non-ip command when both commands are in the configuration file. Therefore, if you had previously specified the unset interface vlan1 bypass-non-ip-all command and would like the device to revert to its default behavior of blocking only the non-IP, non-ARP unicast traffic, you should first specify the set interface vlan1 bypass-non-ip command and then the unset interface vlan1-bypass-non-ip-all command.
