Article ID: KB4364 KB Last Updated: 30 Sep 2020Version: 7.0
Summary:
What Does the Debug Message 'Encryption Tunnel 1 L2 is Not Ready' Indicate?
Solution:

Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 6.3.0.

The debug message 'encryption tunnel l2 is not ready' may be an indication of an improper default route. Consider the following debug output:

**st: <Trust-Company|ethernet2/25.10|Company|0> e00eb8f8: a296:10.101.129.5/88aa->172.16.32.215/2bfe,1,112
going into tunnel c001800e.
flow_encrypt: vector=666420.
route is ready
tunnel route to 10.101.129.5
wait for arp rsp for 10.101.129.5
encryption tunnel 1 l2 is not ready

This debug shows that the host '10.101.129.5' did not respond to an ARP. Because of this, packet flow cannot send a response and the Layer 2 part of the tunnel is not ready. To resolve this, change the default route to point to the correct gateway. For more information on setting the default gateway, go to Where do I set the external default gateway.
