How is Traffic Shaping Bandwidth Allocated on My Juniper Networks NetScreen Device?

This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0 and higher.

Traffic shaping bandwidth allocation is based on the egress (outgoing) interface that the packet traverses. For example, if traffic shaping is enabled for a trust to untrust zone policy, then the untrust interface bandwidth setting allocates the bandwidth requirements for that particular policy.

It is recommended that the sum of all traffic shaping policies used in a particular direction (trust to untrust, untrust to trust, etc.) should never exceed the egress interface bandwidth setting.
