Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0 and higher.

To upgrade the firmware of your NetScreen via a TFTP server from Telnet, SSH, or console, perform the following steps:

Note: You will need to download the firmware update from the Web. For more information on downloading firmware updates from the Web, go to Downloading NetScreen Firmware Updates from the Web.

Step one: Connect to your NetScreen via Telnet, SSH, or console.

Note: For this example, we chose to connect to a NetScreen-5XT via Telnet.

Step two: From the prompt, enter save software from tftp 0.0.0.0 upgrade1.0 to flash (where 0.0.0.0 is the TFTP server containing the firmware upgrade, and upgrade1.0 is the name of the file), and then press ENTER.

Step three: Upon completion of the TFTP transfer, enter reset, and then press ENTER.

Note: Resetting the NetScreen allows the upgrade to load.

Step four: Enter y to confirm reset, and then press ENTER.
