Summary:

Where Are Virus Detections Logged?

Symptoms:

Solution:

When the AV Scan-Mgr detects a virus, it will log this in the event log as a warning type message.

For example:

2004-05-03 10:31:33 system warn 00547 AV: VIRUS FOUND: 1.1.1.16(10414)->2.2.2.20(25), VIRUS WARNING. Contaminated File: No_Name Virus Name: HTML_Netsky.P

In addition, a notification is logged when a virus is found:

 2004-05-03 10:31:33 system notif 00554 SCAN-MGR: Virus found.

This information appears in the event logs.

note: Only the "Virus found" notification message will be sent via email.

The first message, with warning as its message type, will not be sent as an email alert. Email alerts are only sent out if a message has notification, critical, alert, or emergency as the message type.
