Note: This article is applicable to all ScreenOS devices with URL Filtering support.

In ScreenOS, The following options are available to configure URL filtering:
  • Integrated (Surfcontrol)

  • Redirect (Surfcontrol)

  • Redirect (Websense)

You will need a URL license key to run the Integrated (Surfcontrol) option. With integrated Web filtering, the Juniper Networks security device intercepts each HTTP request, determines whether to permit or block access to a requested site by categorizing its URL, and then matches the URL category to a Web-filtering profile.

A Web-filtering profile defines the action (permit or block) that the security device takes, when it receives a request to access a URL. Integrated web filtering makes use of Content Portal Authority (CPA) servers from SurfControl to perform the URL categorization of URL (there are 3 servers, one per region, Americas, EMEA, and APAC).

Certain features are available with Integrated web filtering, which are supported with a expired license key or without any license key. Refer to the following table for the list of supported features available with/without the Integrated URL filtering license key:

A UF license key is not required for Redirect (Surfcontrol) or Redirect (Websense).  However, the redirect methods require that the SurfControl or Websense server and application are purchased, and the server be maintained.
